You're probably wondering if my title has a typo... or maybe you thought it is a person's actual name. If there is really someone by that name, I am sorry but I don't want to know you because the Psyclist I was referring to happened to be Psycho + Cyclist = Psyclist. And my encounter was just the craziest event of my week.
Ok, it happened while I was crossing the road to reach my company's building. As usual, I just waited at the side of the road with everyone else to cross the road and it wasn't like that busy because I always made an effort to reach work before 8. When the pedestrian's lights went green, then I just cross the road like usual. Halfway crossing the road, I did notice a cyclist who was still charging full speed ahead at my left side. But since everyone and I mean EVERYONE is still finishing crossing the road and the traffic light on his side is red, he was supposed to stop and I did notice him skidding to a stop. I didn't think much of it because that was normal as well.
But the weird thing was when he finally skidded to a stop, I happen to pass by in front of him (bear in mind this happened like within seconds). He gave a jerk of his bicycle and start cursing. I didn't give him much thought because I did not touch him and he did not fall down or anything but he started cursing, 'dickhead, dickhead, you fucking simply cross the line,' Still I didn't think much of it cause I thought someone perhaps bumped into him after me or something. Then he screamed, 'That lady over there,' and by now I was curious so I did a slight turn back and was shocked to see that he was like screaming about me.
But mind you, he was on his bicycle. One piece. Nothing happened. WTF man?!? If I bumped into him or whatever, wouldn't I have felt anything? This is absurd! What is there to reason in such a case? I don't even know. Even if I have walked a little faster and finished my crossing, there are still people beside and behind me that would have been there when he skidded to a stop because it is our RIGHT of way!
So I just continue on. It wasn't until I enter through the rotating glass door of my building that his voice came through the back of me screaming for me to turn around so he can take a pic of me. Take a pic of me and then what? Give to the police so he can make a claim of imagined accident that never took place? Or did he wanna put it on the internet and write fake stories about me? (I'd have to control my shaking hand from whipping out my phone and taking his pic so I can warn the whole world what a psyclist he is but I do realise his face was hidden behind his helmet and his sunnies which would prove useless in identifying him... Which may be why he could so easily hurl abuse under his assumed anonymity) Or did he wanted a pic so he could masturbate on it because his wife probably sent him divorce papers the night before or the morning itself because he was such a dickhead and had packed every single memory of them together into a box and set it on fire? Ya, the latter sounds the likeliest.
So there I was slightly stuck in the rotating glass door because 'damn-it!' it alway slows down when it detects someone on the other side, scared of this psyclist who was screaming threats at me because I cross the line. This is thousand times worst than the chicken who got questioned for crossing the road.
In the end, I managed to escape but I felt so shaken up. It has been a few days now but my brain kept dissecting every detail of it.
If anything, I tried to feel apologetic and repentant if indeed I have performed a cardinal sin but... the more I think about it the more I know with conviction that I didn't. And unfortunately, that scares me too. Because that would mean bad things would still happen even when you obey the rules simply because other people have no sense of morality and no regard for the rules. And the other scary point was that this psyclist was cycling a nice bicycle with nice helmet and all the niceties which meant he is probably an educated person and has a clear idea of what is wrong but he still did it. So, mental maybe?
Right now, I haven't gotten over the fear of psyclist. I have conceded to purposely walk in the middle of crowd throng as we cross the road. I don't care if there is a lovey dovey couple walking in the middle, I would probably snuck in between both of them just till I feel safe again. And I have been defiantly eye balling strangers around my office building in case psyclist ever decides to come back again, I wanted to make sure I'd make a positive ID if ~choi, touch wood~ something happens. (Not that I would be able to recognize him since I couldn't really see his face the other day).
Really fml, just earlier that week an old asian street performer thought I was taking a pic of him and was so rude. I just wish I can say with conviction that time will wash this away. Slowly but surely?
